The Wasaga Beach Public Library hosts a local history talk on the HMS Nancy on Tuesday, Nov. 24, from 1 to 2 p.m.
The Nancy was a schooner serving the British during the War of 1812. It burned and sank in the Nottawasaga River in August 1814 during a clash with American ships offshore. The wreck is why Wasaga Beach has Nancy Island, and some historians argue the episode mattered to how the war ended up for Canada.
Presenter Terry Olaskey is a Wasaga Beach resident with a long interest in researching and sharing local history. Check the library's event page for registration details.
